Dr. Jianren Mao received his medical degree from Suzhou Medical College in China and was a research fellow in neuroscience/pain neurobiology at First Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou Medical College. He continued his postdoctoral training with an internship and residency in anesthesiology at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, and a pain fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Pain Center. In addition Dr. Mao completed his PhD in neuroscience/physiology at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Mao is director of the Pain Research Group, Division of Pain Medicine, and MGH Center for Translational Pain Research at MGH’s Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care. He is also an associate professor of anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Mao is board certified in anesthesia and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology and Pain Management and is a member of the American Society for Neuroscience, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the American Pain Society, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists, among others. He is on the editorial board of Molecular Pain, Journal of Neuropathic Pain, Journal of Pain, and Pain Medicine and has authored or co-author over 100 articles, book chapters, and abstracts.
