Chronic pain is a complex multifaceted disease embedded in many aspects of a person’s life. Pain management should not only aim to relieve pain, but also to restore activity and improve quality of life in suffering patients while reducing long-term use of health care services.
These objectives are best met through the combined efforts of an interdisciplinary team of diverse pain specialists coming from the varied fields including addictionology, anesthesia, dentistry, dieticians, family medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, nursing, oncology, pain medicine, pharmacy, physiatry, physiotherapy, psychology, rheumatology, social workers, surgery and other relevant health professionals required to treat the patient.
