Dr. Gilbert Fanciullo received his medical degree from Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. He continued his postdoctoral training with an internship in internal medicine at Albany Medical Center Hospital, followed by a residency in anesthesiology, and a fellowship in pain management and vascular, thoracic, and obstetric anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. Dr. Fanciullo is currently a professor of anesthesiology at Dartmouth Medical School, Lebanon, New Hampshire, and director, section of pain medicine, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Dr. Fanciullo is board certified in anesthesiology, pain management, and hospice and palliative medicine. He is on the Neurology Internal Review Committee & Opioid Guidelines Committee chair at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. In addition, he was on the Board of Directors of the American Pain Society, and the executive committee of the New England Pain Association. Dr. Fanciullo is associate editor, Pain Physician; section co-editor, palliative medicine, Journal of Pain; and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Opioid Management, and Pain Medicine. His major research interests includethe use of computers as tools to improve the quality of information generated at patient-provider encounters, and the use of opioids in patients suffering from non-terminal pain.
